JUHI VERMA

I got a wonderful chance alongside my friend Krishika Gupta to show our collection, "Samsara," at the Bombay Times Fashion Week 2024. This event was a great platform for us to display our designs to fashion lovers, industry experts, and the media. Embracing the essence of Mother Earth, our collection explores the dual aspects of creation and destruction, proving the balance of the universe. Earth symbolizes construction with vibrant greens, transitioning into fiery reds for destruction. Using printed and dyed organza fabrics, our garments capture the interplay between Earth and fire, embodying transition.

A white organza gown inspired by the delphinium flower. It has a semitransparent corset with back ties and an A-line skirt. Ruffles on the skirt add texture and fullness, resembling the flower. Asymmetrical leaves drapes over the bust and a single side strap for a unique look and better support.

A princess line corset made of brocade extending to the waist, featuring hooks at the back and inspired by the Victorian era.

The purpose of this study is to learn more about the beginnings of psychedelic fashion. Moreover, this study aims at creating a line of shoes that are inspired by psychedelic ages. Therefore, this study will explore the past of apparels with particular attention on 1960s psychedelic clothes. Nevertheless, it will be keen on discovering how psychedelic prints have been changing over time to date when they finally become part of the mainstream fashion world.
Inspired by psychedelic print and trends, footwear designs have been developed by me after the study. These designs were later evaluated by experts from the academic and fashion world.

My experience in industries while at KRI was enlightening and practical, it gave me insight into the world of chikankari garment production. I learned so much during this period about pattern drafting, selection of fabric as well as embroidery styles that this greatly increased my insight into what goes into making any single piece among other things.

Designing my own midi dress, from inceptional stage to doing the final embroidery was interesting and educative. It made me have a greater understanding of the detailed commitment and skill required in chikankari. I also learnt how to greatly appreciate the ability possessed by professionals who make these clothes and the value system they stand for in society. At KRI, I discovered that my passage catered for a blend of scholarship and creativity. It made me develop a sudden appreciation for the art of cloth imagery.
